Whitewater rafting in Maine is some of the best rafting that can be found anywhere in the United States (or the World!). Choose from three major rivers: The Kennebec, The Dead and The Penobscot. These whitewater rivers are all in pristine wilderness settings and are dam controlled for guaranteed high water releases throughout the rafting season.

The Maine Rafting Season is from mid-April to mid-October. All of these Maine rivers have special trips and dam releases through out the summer.

Three Rivers Whitewater runs 1, 2, or 3 day trips on the Dead, Kennebec or Penobscot Rivers Daily. We use state of the art equipment and put more time and money into training our professional guide staff than any other outfitter in Maine. All of our trips include home made meals that are second to none. But most importantly, our staff is here to make your trip fun. They are exceedingly friendly and take the time to make your trip what you want it to be. No request is too difficult to accomplish. If it is possible, we will do it to show you a good time. The Kennebec River is hands down our most popular Whitewater Rafting Adventure and offers 12 miles of uninterrupted adrenaline, peace and tranquility! This challenging Class IV river is a great introduction into the sport of rafting and is exciting for paddlers of all ages and experience levels.

The Kennebec River is a High Flow river that is dam controlled and flows at 4,800-6,000 cfs (Cubic Feet Per Second), 7 days a week from the first week of May through the first week of October. The high flow nature of The Kennebec River makes for an extremely unique and exciting whitewater rafting experience that is complete with big features and calm swimming sections! The Dead River is a 16 Mile Class IV Whitewater Adventure like no other! This is the longest and most continuous section of whitewater in the Northeast  and offers an all-day, adrenaline packed experience for whitewater enthusiasts everywhere!

The Dead River is a Flood Stage river that is dam controlled and is considered “The next level up” from The Kennebec River. This Class IV river only runs on a limited and  predetermined set of dates throughout the season which correspond with seasonal spring melts and fall lake level management techniques. These anticipated releases provide us with lots of water which create fun and exciting rapids from the put-in to the take-out! The town Millinocket, Maine is an old mill town that sits on the outskirts of Baxter State Park. This quiet town is popular amongst hikers, fishermen, paddlers and outdoor enthusiast alike for it’s ease and accessibility to Baxter State Park, Mt. Katahdin, and The Penobscot River system.

The Penobscot River is also dam controlled and flows at 1,400-3,600 cfs (Cubic Feet per Sesond), 7 days a week throughout the season. The Penobscot rafting season is a little shorter due to a smaller water source and typically runs from Late May through Late September. The lower water levels provide for a dynamic set of rapids that will keep you on the edge of your seat all day long!
